Steve Cater- Steve's first guidebook was in collaboration with Hassan Saab in 1991. Together they wrote the second guidebook to the New River Gorge. Steve continued to update and publish editions throughout the years. He has also written several other guides that are currently out of print. In total he has about 30,000 books in print.

Since graduating from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Geology in 1987, Steve has climbed and traveled all over the world. His travels have taken him to South America, Australia, Antarctica, Europe, Asia, and areas throughout North America. Steve spent over 10 years based out of Fayetteville, WV. He started a guide service (New River Mountain Guides) in 1994 with Roxanna Brock and sold the business to several of the guides in 2002. He recently completed a Master's Degree in GIS and Remote Sensing at the University of Utah. He can be reached at scater72@hotmail.com
