An excerpt from "Our Neighbors"
By French Morgan
“I often think of our neighbors we had on Meade Street. They were certainly a versatile aggregation of folks to arouse interest. On the corner diagonally across from us was Floyd P. Sexton, one of the earliest fire insurance agents in the town. He was interested in the welfare of his company as well as in the welfare of his neighbor … whose house was on fire. When an alarm was given, Floyd could be seen running down the street, water bucket in hand, to render all the assistance possible.
“On the opposite corner was the Stevens family. They were a musical family and come evening often entertained us while practicing on the front porch. The family moved away from the neighborhood before we left Meade Street in 1902. Skeet was a barber for a number of years. He drank rather heavily but reformed, joined the Methodist Protestant Church and became a useful citizen. In later years, his mind went bad and he died in the hospital at Weston.”
